DPS Festival of Lights Illuminates Hope in People

The carnival dazzled people through numerous attractions of light, a light parade, fireworks and other fun-filled activities; all proceeds were donated to Lady Dufferin Hospital

Karachi – January 27, 2017: With the hope to light up lives of others, Dawood Public School (DPS) organized “DPS Festival of Lights”, a fundraising event full of shimmering lights and unique illuminated artifacts. The fun-filled festival aims to generate funds that will help the deserving patients visiting Lady Dufferin Hospital. DPS Festival of Lights is sponsored by Engro Foundation whereas Karachi School of Business and Leadership (KSBL) assisted as social outreach partner of the event. The festival was similar to its international counterparts with shows, fireworks, food stalls and much more.

The school transformed itself for the festival and mesmerized visitors with displays made of various lights. Each of the school marked its presence with an extraordinary display including stick-men made of lights and giant flowers made out of LEDs!

One of the main attraction at the festival was children’s ‘Olper’s Light Parade’. Groups of little girls appeared with glittering costumes, followed by lit-up hula-hoops, aeroplanes, and other decorated ornaments that added more colours to the cavalcade. The well decorated truck carrying a fairy princess reigned the parade. The fairy princess was attired in a specially designed “fairy costume” made entirely of elegant purple LEDs with white LED light wings.

The festival had numerous fascinating performances including Tron Dance by Shehzad Danger Crew and a thrilling fire performance. DPS students had several stalls that engaged visitors in constant bargain hunting for various delicious snacks and fun games. The activity aimed to teach children how to interact with people and make transactions in real life.

Sharing her excitement to be part of this activity Rabail Soomro of Class 8 said ‘DPS Festival of Lights is a great platform for the students to hone their entrepreneurial skills. From coming up with business ideas to making marketing strategy to grab customers attention at the event gave all of us to use our limited resources in a creative way.’ ‘The best part of the festival is that we will be helping deserving patients through the proceeds, this is how we would like to play our part in the cause.’

The spirit of helping others was at its peak throughout the festival. Volunteering parents helped eager blood donors at Indus Hospital blood donation camp.

Young visitors also had a great time enjoying a wide array of amusement rides including Victorian-horse ride, mini trains, merry-go-rounds and much more. People savored scrumptious food delight at their ease along with rides. The entire event was made possible through the unwavering efforts of teachers, supporting staff and students of DPS.

Acknowledging the efforts of students, teachers and staff of DPS at the Festival of Lights, Dr. Zaryab Sethna said: ‘The valiant efforts of bringing lights back to Karachiites through a festival and raising funds for Lady Dufferin Hospital shows how children and adults alike can use their imagination in bringing happiness in the world.’

Lady Dufferin Hospital is a not-for-profit organization that is providing best possible medical care to women and children irrespective of socio-economic backgrounds. The hospital has over 300 beds and state-of-the-art medical facilities including obstetric, gynecological and neo-natal pediatric services. The hospital caters to thousands of patients who cannot afford good quality of medical treatment. According to a report by ‘Save the Children’, Pakistan is amongst the highest Mother Mortality Rate of 276 per 100,000 live births and the under-five child mortality rate of around 89 deaths per 1,000 live births during the last a decade or so.

The health indicators in Pakistan present a gloomy situation especially when it comes to maternal and infant mortality rates. According to report, “Ending Newborn Deaths,” in 2012 Pakistan had the highest rate of first-day deaths and stillbirths at 40.7 per 1,000 births, followed by Nigeria (32.7), Sierra Leone (30.8), Somalia (29.7), Guinea-Bissau (29.4) and Afghanistan (29.0). On the other hand Pakistan’s Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is 299 per 100,000 live births. The situation itself speaks the importance of the issue to be taken seriously.

The day ended with a spectacular display of fireworks enthralling the audience at the culmination of the festival.
Dawood Public School to Hold a Dazzling Festival of Lights on 27 & 28 January

Karachi – January 25, 2017: Dawood Public School (DPS) is gearing up to hold a fundraising carnival for Lady Dufferin Hospital. The school will open its gates to the public on the evenings of 27th and 28th January, 2017 for the electrifying ‘DPS Festival of Lights’. The event is sponsored by Engro Foundation.

Dawood Public School will transform its vicinity into a sparkling display of lights, with illuminated trees and installations. DPS students will set up stalls with recreational games, as well as of food of different cuisines. Visitors can also enjoy a wide array of amusement rides including horse carriages, a mini train rides and for daredevils, a pirate ship. The carnival will also be offering light and fire performance that will amuse, astound and amaze the spectators.

One of the main attractions will be the ‘Olper’s Light Parade’ by the students dressed up in lit-up costumes and accompanied with glitzy Victorian horse carriage and much more. The festival will end with spectacular fireworks on both days at 9:30pm.

Star-studded premiere for ‘Thora Jee Le’ held in Karachi

[Karachi Date: 20th January 2017] Mahtab Akbar Rashdi and HUM Films hosted an exclusive movie premiere for the first release of the year, Thora Jee Le in Karachi.

‘Thora Jee le’ is a comedy/drama film written and directed by Rafay Rashdi, produced by 1NFLUENCE and executively produced by Mahtab Akbar Rashdi. The youthful movie has been shot in Karachi and Larkana.

The cast includes some of the young and talented actors in the Pakistani film industry namely, Rizwan Ali Jaffri, Bilal Abbas, Ramsha Khan, Salman Faisal, Fatima Shah Jillani, Kasim Khan and Ahsan Mohsin Ikram.

The premier had a star studded red carpet with the star cast of the movie.

‘Thora Jee Le’ released on 20th January 2017 under the banner of Hum Films. The story revolves around seven individuals belonging to different backgrounds and how their lives transform as they enter their practical life. A story about self-discovery, dosti, tafreeh, jigri & yaari between friends, who venture on a journey of a lifetime only to discover that fate has different plans, for all of them.

TECH’S FIRST OFFICIAL MEETUP

What was an idea yesterday, has now become a reality. TECH Association of Pakistan held its first official meetup at The Nucleus, Business Executive Centre, which was a private affair. Big names from the industry attended the meeting, contributing to the success of the event. The agenda of the meetup was to personally welcome the members of the advisory board and other departments and to introduce the objective of formation of the much needed technology association in Pakistan. The idea was pitched by Kanwal Masroor who is the Chairman of the association with the support of Zeeshan Rehman who extended his tremendous and tireless efforts for the creation of same.

The meetup discussed the broad vision of the association which includes providing workshops and seminars to the business and technology student to enlighten them about the possibilities and opportunities and mentor them correctly to push them towards achieving their dreams, thus observing entrepreneurship.

The emphasis is on the building, developing and strengthening the technology industry in Pakistan because the kind of talent we have in our country can result in taking Pakistan very far. Pakistan has the 4th largest broadband internet system in the world. The literacy rate has grown by 250% and the youngest Microsoft professionals belong to Pakistan naming Arfa Karim and Babar Iqbal. Needless to say, these are just a few mentions. This is like chefs waiting with an inventory of high quality ingredients ready and available in the kitchen, just waiting for the head chef to guide and instruct further to serve the best dish on the table. Our youth, if mentored correctly, can be the greatest source contributing to the GDP of Pakistan from their respective divisions.

Among the other presenters, Mir Mohammad Ali khan was there to give a brief introduction and share the reason for accepting the position of President of the association. Each member added equal value to the event, making their presence count by participating in the last segment which was an open discussion session, where all the members were asked to suggest any ideas they would like to be implemented through TECH.

The reason we call it a success is the full attendance of the invitees despite their busy schedules and the response TECH received yesterday was expected yet amazing. The enthusiasm in each member to add value and contribute by any means for the betterment of this industry is outstanding and worth acknowledging. With this kind of powerful team and tireless spirit to work together, its not wrong to say that TECH Pakistan has a bright future, achieving its objectives thus making the industry strong while benefiting the country as well.
