PSL 2021 To Be Played in Karachi and Lahore Only Due to COVID-19

All 34 matches of PSL 2021 are likely to be played in Karachi and Lahore only. Though the news is not yet official it is said that PCB is considering organizing an equal number of matches in both the cities. 17 matches will be played in Karachi while Lahore will host the same number of matches. The decision of limiting matches to only two cities is because of the recent COVID-19 situation.

Previous year, all matches of PSL were played in Pakistan for the first time ever since its inception in 2016. The matches were played in four cities including Multan, Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

For 2021, the PCB was planning to add in Peshawar as another destination but due to the ongoing pandemic, this seems a tough choice and the board is contemplating to distribute matches between two metropolitan cities only.

This will become a challenge for Karachi and Lahore, especially for Karachi which faces major traffic issues whenever matches are staged here. Also, the law enforcement agencies will face a tough time managing peace and security city-wide for 15 days, and that too nonstop. However, this is too early to comment on it.

Multan too was a good option but lack of infrastructure, logistic problems, shortage of proper accommodation for international players and players’ security would be difficult. The same is not true for Rawalpindi though, which can be used as a third venue if the officials want to reduce burden on the two mentioned cities.

For now, the PCB is taking into consideration all the available venue options which will then be shared with the six franchise owners. The owners will then take the final call.

An official from PCB stated that all franchises are ready for PSL 2021 after clearing their previous charges. The PSL 2021 is expected to happen in February-March.
KARACHI KINGS SEASON 3 – The Home Stretch

Saturday 17^thMarch, 2018: The Karachi Kings have truly become a force to reckon with. Defying all odds, the team shows more zeal and vigor to win, fighting till the last ball as the series progresses. Without a doubt, the addition of Shahid Afridi and captain ship of Imad Wasim has had a positive impact.

With some of the most memorable performances, the team made strides in all areas of the game. Afridi had outstanding stats in nearly every match. The batting lineup has been impressive, heavy hitters Colin Ingram, Ravi Bopara, Joe Denly, Shahid Afridi and Babar Azam ranked at the top of the list. The team also scored the highest total in the series. With electrifying fielding, Afridi, Denly and Imad taking close to impossible catches. Imad’s catch resulted in an injury taking him out of the game for a few matches, he is replaced by Eoin Morgan as captain for the time being. The match ended with a nail-biting finish in the climactic super over. Despite a few losses the Karachi Kings roared back, clenching the second position in the rankings. The support for Karachi Kings has been tremendous throughout, the fans along with superstars and celebrities of the industry fueled the team every step of the way. The Kings will face Islamabad in the qualifier match on 18^th of March. International players Joe Denly, Colin Ingram, Ravi Bopara, Lendl Simmons, Tymal Mills and David Wiese are ready to travel to Pakistan to compete in the final spell of matches.

Team Sargodha Victorious in the Jazz Rising Stars T20 Cup 2017

Lahore, 9 October 2017: In a befitting finale for the Jazz Rising Stars (JRS) T20 Cup 2017, Sargodha Rising Stars beat Layah Rising Stars to lift the trophy. Batting first, Layyah RS posted a total of 148/8, which Sargodha RS was able to chase with 6 wickets to spare. Sargodha’s opener Muhammad Naveed was the man of the match for his match-winning knock of 68 runs.

Sargodha RS received prize money worth PKR 300,000, while Layyah RS walked away with PKR 200,000.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Shahbaz Maqsood Khan, Director Marketing – Jazz, said, “I would like to congratulate Sargodha for the victory. I am sure some of these boys will go ahead to represent the nation in future tournaments, which is exactly what the Jazz Rising Stars initiative is all about.”

Pool B matches, the semifinals and the final of the JRS T20 Cup 2017 took place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Matches for Pool A were played at Muzaffarabad Sports Stadium. Over 160,000 participants from nine cities came for this year’s JRS trials.

Now top 16 players from the tournament will get professional training and international experience under the Sydney Triangular Series and the Dubai Emirates Cup. The best JRS T20 Cup players will represent Lahore Qalandars in the third edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Karachi, September 22, 2017: Multan Sultans – the sixth franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) stormed into the PSL circuit in style, as it unveiled its kit designed on a classy colour theme and the logo to much hype and excitement in an impressive ceremony.

The level of excitement took an upsurge ever since Schön Group won the rights to the sixth PSL franchise, amongst as many as 30 companies, and 12 submitting bids, to choose Multan as the base city for the new franchise.

Speaking at the occasion of the logo and kit launch, Asher Schon, Director, Multan Sultans said:

The franchise also announced former Australian star, Tom Moody as Head Coach of Multan Sultans. Moody comes with the great experience of coaching, with a varied set of roles in franchise T20 cricket, county cricket and the former coach of Sri Lankan cricket team, where he led them to the final of the 2007 World Cup.

Regarding Moody’s appointment, Asher Schon, said, “I believe in Tom we have found the ideal man for this role. He possesses years of coaching experience with various franchises which enables him to play a crucial role in nurturing young talent and player development.”

Multan Sultans enter the circuit just at a time when cricket is flourishing with a memorable victory in the ICC Champions Trophy, followed by a triumphant Independence Cup, which ended the long and tough journey for fans who have been deprived of the opportunity to witness international cricket.

Lahore Qalandars’ Ambidextrous Bowling Prodigy Going to MCC

The Pakistan Super League team from Lahore, the Lahore Qalandars initiated a talent hunt canvassing all of Punjab in its first year of inception and set the bar high for anyone wanting to attempt such a comprehensive activity in the future. This hunt, dubbed the “Rising Stars” initiative, returned fruits of over 113,000 registrations from aspiring talent at eight locations across Punjab. “When we bought this franchise, the vision was to one day conduct such a massive activity on an annual basis that would one day form the pipeline to not only Pakistan cricket but a pathway to a brighter, greater Pakistan through empowered youth. We now stand at the threshold of being able to do so sustainably and I am proud of the team who has made this happen and trust they will only grow it further,” said a beaming Fawad Rana, owner of the Lahore Qalandars, when contacted for comment on the Rising Stars.
An activity spanning almost two months across the eight stations took its toll but also gave the team some spectacular talent. “Each one on the organizing team lost at least a stone during the hunt but it has been worth it – we found gems like Irfan and Yasir, and rediscovered some the system had lost too. I believe this Rising Stars initiative will continue on to become Pakistan’s future pipeline of cricket talent,” Aqib Javed, Director of Cricket for Lahore Qalandars added about the event.
During the Rising Stars talent hunt, of the total players registered, the selected few are put into squads of 16 to form a team representing each city. The best of these 128 aspirants in 2016 were selected to form a match-tested 16-person squad to represent the Lahore Qalandars Rising Stars in an unprecedented and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to Sydney and participate in a tri-series against the best youth players from the region as well as play in the Emirates Twenty20. Four of these Rising Stars got the chance to be part of PSL 2016 – M. Irfan, Jr., Saif Badar, Ghulam Muddassar and Usman Qadir, of whom Irfan, a brick-maker from Faisalabad, featured in 7 of a total of 8 Qalandars matches!
Jazz and PCB along with Royal Palm supported the initiative and played a major role in empowering the talented youth of Punjab, to the extent that the Final ceremony Chief Guest, Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif, lauded the effort as tremendous, even citing as an activity the scale of which governments execute.
Through this talent hunt, the Lahore Qalandars came across a unique bowler, Yasir Jan – the first ambidextrous quick bowler of Pakistan. A mercurial individual who is able to bowl exceptionally quick with both hands with great intent without any formal coaching, the Qalandars saw an opportunity to nurture and develop this talent into something potentially great for the nation. In a continuation of that vision, Yasir Jan is now being sent for a cricket grooming and training program in Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) and Watford Town Cricket Club where his skills will be harnessed and he will receive extensive cricket training from the best the cricketing world has to offer at the home of cricket. CEO of Lahore Qalandars, Atif Rana, speaking on Yasir Jan, had this to say: “Yasir is a special talent, the only ambidextrous fast bowler of Pakistan. His development is extremely important to both us as well as to Pakistani cricket. Not every individual with raw talent is discovered, and even less so, encouraged. We want to ensure Yasir has every opportunity to develop as a cricketer and an individual hone his unique talent. Our alliance with MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club) allows us to send him to England for that development and cricket training.”
